Rue in Medicinal Herbs

Curative properties

Eyesight affections: wash with the brew.

Cramps: make an infusion of 2g of the plant per cup, drink one cup daily.

Colic: drink the infusion 2 cups a day.

Cuts and scrapes: apply compresses over the affected area.

Diarrhea: drink the infusion 2 cups a day.

Digestive: drink one cup of the infusion after meals.

Headache: massage with the dry leaves in the temples and behind the ear.  Also, chew one to two leaves.

Menstrual problems: drink the infusion.

Earache: put three drops of the juice.

Eruptions: apply a cataplasm over the affected area.

Furuncles: apply a cataplasm over the affected area.

Gases: drink the infusion after meals.

Blows: apply compresses over the affected area.

Hemorrhoids: wash with the brew of 60g of leaves per liter of water.  Use it cold.

Neuralgia: massage with fresh leaves or drink the brew, 2 to 5 times a day.

Menstrual problems: promotes and regulates menstruation.  Drink the infusion of 5g of leaves per cup of water, 2 to 3 times a day during the days you are suppose to have your menstruation.

Rheumatism: drink the infusion 2 cups a day.  Besides, massage with the oil, leave over affected area and cover with a cloth.

Preparation 

Oil: macerate in the sun 55g of the fresh rue in 250g in olive oil for 40 days. Preferably put it in an airtight bottle. If not, place it face down.

Cataplasm: grind the leaves and mix egg white to form a paste.    Place them in any natural porous fiber and use as bandage over affected area until discomfort diminishes.  Also apply directly over affected area covering the paste with a hot towel.

Brew, for drinking: boil 20g of leaves per liter of water.  Let stand.  For washing: boil 100g of leaves in a liter of water.  Let stand.

Compresses: submerge any natural porous fiber in the infusion and place it over the affected area until discomfort diminishes.  Can also be used cold.

Infusion: add 1g of fresh leaves or 0.5g of dry leaves to one cup of boiling water. Let stand.

Juice: crush the cooked plant.  Place in gauze, squeeze and strain the loose juice.

Maceration: place a fistful of leaves in a cold cup and let stand for 24 hours. Sweeten with honey.  Drink one fasting and one before going to sleep.

Precaution
Do not use if pregnant or nursing.  It can be abortive.  Do not use in case of allergies.  Using it in excessive doses can cause gastrointestinal pain, vomits, mental confusion, and liver or kidney damage.  Do not use for long periods.  Prolonged exhibition to the sun during treatment can cause pigmentation of the skin. The fresh plant, with direct contact, can cause skin infections.
