Plaques or Frames of Liquid Glaze
Plaques These are used to decorate the cake to paint or write messages with glaze on them. Follow these steps to make them.
- Place the desired plaque figure on a lamina of Styrofoam or wood, place a piece of cellophane paper on top and hold it with adhesive tape or pins.
- Fill a coned paper with royal glaze and another with liquid glaze to make thin tracings.
- With the coned paper and royal glaze outline the plaque and let it dry a little.
- Make a line with the liquid glazed cone paper as close to the outline as possible. After refill the free spaces.
- Let it dry (this process can be done quicker if placed under a warm lamp).
- Once it’s completely dry, un-stick it very carefully inverting it onto a lamina of foamy glue.
Frames
- Rest the design of the frame on top of Styrofoam or wood and place the cellophane paper on top. Hold it all with pins or adhesive tape.
- With royal glaze on a coned paper and a fine tip filter tip outline the borders of the frame.
- Refill the frame using liquid glaze on a coned paper, do this by sections: refill one section then another to the left and then the other to the right, continue this process alternating it from right to left, this way we avoid the drying of one side of a sector before refilling the next one.
- Once the liquid work is finished, cut a section of the paper in the center to diminish the tension and avoiding the frame from breaking.
- Once this is completely dry remove it from the cellophane paper inverting it onto a lamina of foamy glue for it not to break. Never touch the top surface of the frame but hold it from under.
- Finally place the frame onto the borders of the cake, and finish with a thin ribbing done with royal glaze.
Painting Plaques with Liquid Glaze
- Transfer the chosen design to a completely dry liquid glaze lamina.
- With a brush and food coloring, color the background and paint the “thick” figure with stronger colors.
- Paint all the details with a thinner brush.
- Finish the work giving to it a light and shade effects and outline the parts that are necessary. Let it dry.
Note An innovating way of adding liquid glaze is with a brush.
- To do this, you must transfer the design to the cake.
- Simply, refill each section with a brush placing the glaze from out to in.
