Peppermint in Medicinal Herbs

Curative properties

Asthma: do inhalations.

Bile, secretion and evacuation: drink the infusion 3 times a day.

Sedative: drink the infusion 3 times a day.

Caries: do gargles with the infusion or apply a cataplasm or compresses over the affected area.

Colic: drink the infusion 3 times a day.

Diarrhea: drink the infusion 3 times a day.

Digestive: drink the infusion 3 times a day.

Joint pain: apply compresses.

Headache: drink the infusion from the twigs in repeated doses.  Also, rub the fresh leaves in the temples.

Toothache: apply cataplasms or compresses over the affected area.

Earache: apply drops from the mixed juice of equal parts of water and honey.

Expectorant: do inhalations or drink the infusion 3 times a day.

Gases: drink the infusion 3 times a day.

Blows: apply a cataplasm from the brew of 25g of twigs in a liter of water over the affected area.

Flu: drink the leaf infusion.

Skin inflammation: apply a cataplasm or compresses over the affected area or wash with the infusion.

Insomnia: drink a cup of infusion from 20g of the whole plant in a liter of water before going to sleep.

Worms and intestinal parasites: mix two spoonfuls of juice into the soup.  Take for 15 days.

Dizziness: drink one cup of the infusion of 30g of the plant per liter of water.  If not, take one spoonful of tincture diluted in half a cup of water.

Nauseas and vomits: drink in sips 2 to 3 cups of the brew.  As infusion, drink 3 times a day.  If not, take one spoonful of the tincture diluted in half a cup of water.

Neuralgia: apply compresses or a cataplasm from the leaves over affected area or drink the infusion of the twigs in repeated doses.

Palpitations: drink the infusion 3 times a day.

Bites: grind the fresh stem and apply over the affected area.

Menstrual problems: helps provoke menstruation.  Drink one spoonful of the tincture diluted in half a cup of water.

Burns: apply a cataplasm or compresses over the affected area.

Muscular pain: drink the infusion of 25g of the plant per liter of water, 3 to 5 times a day.

Rheumatism: apply compresses over the affected area.

Preparation
Cataplasm
: grind 5 to 7g of dry flowers and soak in hot water or boil the same amount of the whole plant in 300ml of water to form a paste.  Place them in any natural porous fiber and use as bandage over affected area until discomfort diminishes.

Brew: boil in low temperature 2g of leaves in a liter of water.  Let stand and strain.

Compresses: submerge any natural porous fiber in the infusion and place it over the affected area until discomfort diminishes.  Can also be used cold.

Infusion: add 2 to 3 spoonfuls of leaves in a cup of boiling water or 15g of leaves and flowers in a liter of water.  Let stand for 10 minutes.

Inhalations: boil water and add the plant.  Absorb the steam directly from the pot, covering head with a towel and closing eyes and mouth.  You can also use a paper or carton cone that adapts mouth and nose.

Juice: crush the leaves and stems with drops of water.  Place in gauze, squeeze and strain the loose juice.

Tincture: submerge 28g of chamomile flowers and 28g of dry mint leaves in a mixture of one third of alcohol of 90º or 95º and two thirds in one liter of water. Macerate during 40 days in the sun, shaking the container everyday.  On the last night, when it’s cold, filter with paper and store.

Precaution  
Do no use the essential oil in case of pregnancy or nursing nor administer on babies or children under 10 years old.  The inhalation of the pure essence can cause spasms of the larynx and bronchi, especially in children. Not to use in inhalation for long periods. Not to consume in pure menthol or mint leaves in natural condition. Not to use in case of hepatic or bile affections. Its constant use can damage the eyes and irritate the mucous membranes. It is recommended to use 2 or 3 weeks and to rest 2 more before resuming.
