Oregano in Natural Remedies

Curative properties 

Hepatic affections, bad breath: boil 30g of oregano in a liter of water and drink two cups a day.

Tonsillitis, mouth inflammation: boil for 5 minutes, 40g of flowers and leaves in half a liter of water and do gargles.

Asthma, bronchitis, cough: boil 40g of flowers and leaves in half a liter of water for 5 minutes, strain and drink two cups of this daily.  If not, do steam inhalations of this preparation covering head with a towel.

Cuts and scrapes: apply oregano oil with gauze since this has disinfectant and scarring properties.

Digestive: prepare an infusion of oregano flowers and drink after meals.

Headache: apply oregano oil over temples and cover with bandage.

Molar ache: soak cotton with oregano oil and apply over affected molar.

Menstrual problems: add three teaspoons of sugar and one of oregano flower in a cup of boiling water or drink a cup of concentrated oregano infusion.

Gases: to prevent them, drink the infusion of the oregano flowers half an hour before meals.

Blows: soak oregano leaves in hot water, place them in sterile gauze and apply over affected area.

Worms and intestinal parasites: make a plant brew and let stand.  Then, heat up again in low temperature until it reduces to a third of the original amount. Add 600g of honey and 500g of sugar and stir until dissolved.  Store, let cool and take this syrup.

Bites: crush the whole fresh plant, wrap in a clean gauze and apply over affected area.

Rheumatism, muscle spasm: prepare a cataplasm of oregano and linseed flour and apply over affected are or heat dry oregano leaves in a pan and apply. 

Precaution
In case of pregnancy or nursing, do not follow any treatment without medical supervision. In high doses it can have narcotic effects.  The use of essential oil in doses higher than 5 drops can produce sleepiness although initial symptoms are euphoria and excitement.
