Marzipan Fruit and Vegetable Shapes
For this type of work, plastic sticks of different sizes are of great use. The figures you can make with this technique are infinite. This technique is perfect for making fruits and vegetables: with small portions of different colors and ball shapes we can make a wide variety.
- Tomatoes
Dye the marzipan a red color and make a ball. Stretch the green marzipan and make the calyx with a special cutter. Stick the calyx to the tomato by putting pressure with a small stick.
- Radishes
Make a little red ball, smaller than the tomato, and make a small hole with a stick. Roll up a little green marzipan and stick it into the radish, flatten it on one extreme and cut it with scissors to make the shape of the radish leaves. Insert it into the radish hole and stick it with egg whites.
- Carrots and turnips
They are made the same, just that for the carrots you must dye the marzipan paste orange (for the turnips you don’t give it any color). Make a cone shape. Make a hole in the thicker part of the cone and make horizontal lines on the entire surface; paint the lines brown. Make the leaves the same way as the radishes but bigger and stick them into the holes.
- Cauliflower
Make a ball the size of a nut with the marzipan and mark it with a stick or wire to make the flower shapes. Paint it with white food coloring. With green marzipan make small balls the size of peas of different sizes. Stretch them and stick them to the sides of the white ball alternating them, starting with the small ones.
- Apples
Make small balls with the marzipan flattening the top and bottom sides lightly. Make a hole in the top with a toothpick and place a clover in the bottom side of the apple. Paint it red or green and tint it.
- Strawberries
Make small marzipan balls and give them the shape of strawberries. Use the tip of a small brush to make the holes on the side surfaces. Stretch a thin piece of marzipan and make the calyx for the strawberries. Stick it on top of the strawberries with egg white. Place a piece of clover stick on the top to make the stem. Paint the calyx green and the strawberry red, roll it on sugar.
- Lemon
Make marzipan balls and give them the shape of a lemon with two small tips on either side. Pass them through a grater softly to mark the surface. Paint them with yellow coloring.
- Bananas
Knead a piece of marzipan and give to it the shape of a banana. Paint it a yellow color and paint brown streaks on the sides.
- Oranges
Make marzipan balls. Place a clover on the top to make the stem. Pass them through a grater softly to mark the surface. Paint them with orange coloring.
- Grapes
To make a grape bunch, make 9 or 10 marzipan balls; join them together with egg white for them to look like a bunch. Place a clover as a stem. Paint them either purple or green.
- Cherries
Make small marzipan balls. With a stick make a hole on the top of each one. Join them by twos and add real cherry stems. Paint them red.
- Watermelons
Make marzipan balls and squash them. Cut each circle in half and let them dry. Paint the curved sides green. Leave a layer without painting and paint the rest red. Once they are dry, paint little brown seeds on them.
- Pears
Make a marzipan ball and with your hands knead them to the shape of pears. Place the clovers as stems. Paint them yellow with red streaks.
