Human figures, clothing and make-up

Have in mind
Remember to always work with the paste prepared the same day that you are going to make solid pieces as these, and already reposed for the clothing.

We will make three types of dolls:

  • Dolls with shawls
  • Dolls with uncovered legs
  • Dolls with pants

Steps to follow
The basic mold for the dolls with long skirts is the following.

  1. Mold the base skirt with pastry dough. This is a basic cone of 10 to 12cm in height, which will be relatively thick at its base, depending on the future form of the clothing. It can be solid or not. Place a stick onto the top part to later pinch onto the torso. Let it dry well.
  2. Make the long skirt by placing the glue paste on a buttered table. Cut a rectangle or circle according to the model used. Crease the part that corresponds to the waist and glue it with glaze to the base (on the waist or thighs). Give movement to the long skirt by placing cotton balls until it dries.
  3. The torso is done with a skin colored glue paste. It can be molded by hand, use a mold for the face and torso together. For this, place a roll of colored paste in the mold sprinkled with some starch; cover it with the other side of the mold and put pressure. Remove and cut the excess with scissors. Let it dry in the position it will have in the end. Painting the face: with a very thin brush and colorings, draw the lips, eyes, eyebrows and eyelashes. Give the cheeks a little touch of color.
  4. Pinch the torso at the base and glue it with a little glaze. Cut the top part of the clothing and glue it to the torso with Arabic glue.
  5. Shape the arms with skin colored paste. For these there are also molds, but it’s preferable to mold them by hand. Knead two molds of paste for the arms and while you roll them, with your index finger and thumb, shape the elbows and wrists. Bend the arms for the elbow (this must be in the middle, between the shoulder and the wrist and at the height of the waist). Squash the side that will be the hand; remove the excess paste that is between the thumb and the index fingers with scissors, and cut the rest of the fingers. Trim these if possible with the help of a decorating stick. Cut the slant at the other side of the arm and glue it to the torso with skin colored glaze. If the shoulder should be showing, soften the union of the glaze with a brush dampened in water to dissimulate;  if not, it will be covered with a glaze covering, or the sleeve of the clothing can be placed, cut in stretched paste and glued with Arabic glue. Give to the arms their corresponding positions; if necessary, use toothpicks to hold them in their places.
  6. Finally, decorate the hair with glaze in a coned paper. To form the base of the hairdo, cut the tip of the coned paper somewhat thick. Next, use a thinner cut coned paper to trace the hair.

Make the rest of the details of the clothing with glaze too.
