Hazelnut Wafers with Caramel Sauce

Ingredients
125 grams of whole wheat flour, sifted
1 teaspoon of powder yeast
125 grams of hazelnuts, finely ground
2 tablespoons of sugar
300 grams of butter
1 beaten egg
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
30 grams of melted butter
Ice cream, for serving
Caramel sauce, for serving

Preparation

  1. This is a very delicious dessert. It can also be prepared with fruit in the oven and whipped cream or yogurt; although it is ideal with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce; or with a fruit puree. For a party these can be previously prepared and frosted. At the moment of serving them, they can be heated in the oven at a low temperature.
  2. Mix the flour, the yeast and the hazelnuts in a recipient. Open a hole in the middle and add in the sugar, the butter and the vanilla extract. Mix until you obtain a fine dough.
  3. Butter a waffle iron with the melted butter and heat it up. Put around two or three tablespoons of the dough onto the waffle iron making sure it does not spill over the sides. Close the waffle iron and let it cook for around 3 to 4 minutes or until the waffle is golden and crunchy. Repeat the same process with the rest of the dough.
  4. Serve with ice cream and caramel sauce.
