Dolls with Uncovered Legs
If the doll should have its legs uncovered, these must be molded the same way as the arms, with a mold or by hand. To do it manually, make two rolls of skin colored paste, and with the index finger and thumb, make the knees and ankles, press the tips forwards to make the feet.
Bend the legs slightly at the height of the knees and let them dry in the position that they will have later.
Sitting dolls If the doll is going to be sitting on a bench, we must first mold the waist by making a ball and sticking it onto the seat. Glue the legs to the waist with glaze. The rest of the body is done as explained previously.
If you wish for the doll to be standing, you must place thin wires on the legs and stick them into a Styrofoam surface to let them dry.
Dolls with pants You can also cover the legs with pants (for example if you are making a male figure).
These are done by cutting a rectangle of the stretched paste that will cover the leg in all its surroundings. Glue it with Arabic glue. To simplify the making of the figure that will be wearing pants, a roll can be made by hand with a tip that will be a little narrower to which you will place a stick. Cut the length of the other tip in half to make the legs.
Place it in a lying position and later glue it to a pastry dough base (if you wish for the doll to be in a sitting position, do it while it’s fresh). Dress it and complete the figure.
Making your own face molds If you don’t have the appropriate mold or you wish to make a different face than the standard ones, you can make your own mold from the face of a toy or a porcelain piece. For this you must proceed as follows:
- Take a portion of the pastry dough and make a ball.
- Separate the porcelain or plastic doll face from the rest of the body and remove all the details that could leave marks on the mold.
- Place the face against the pastry dough ball and press on it enough for the features of the face to be marked. This must be placed until its half (the ears) into the pastry dough.
- Separate them and let the pastry dough dry.
- Once it is dry, you can use it as a mold to work with marzipan, pastry dough or glue paste.
Clothing In the same manner as we make the clothing for human figures, we can make a wide variety of clothing in glue paste to decorate the cake.
This is used widely for baptism cakes, for example, to make baby clothes (bathrobes, bibs, etc.).
Also when we decorate the cake with the shape of a bedroom, we can make small clothes and objects with glue paste, to complete the furniture.
To make the clothes, proceed in the following manner:
- Stretch the paste with the needed color as thin as possible on a buttered table.
- Place the molds for the clothing and cut with scissors or scalpels.
- Build the pieces together gluing them with Arabic glue, and place little cotton balls under to give it more volume.
- Let them dry and decorate the clothes with glaze in the same way as with some embroidery.
- Complete with some ribbons.
