Dates and Spice Bread Recipe
Ingredients 125 grams of butter ¾ cup of cane syrup 1 cup of extra fine sugar 2 cups of sifted white flour 1 teaspoon of baking soda 3 teaspoons of ground ginger 2 eggs 1 teaspoon of varied spices 1 cup of milk 1 and ½ cups of dates, pitted and chopped
- Preparation time: 25 minutes
- Baking time: 50 to 60 minutes
Preparation
- Preheat the oven at a temperature of 160 degrees C. Butter a rectangular 20 by 30 centimeter baking dish with melted butter or oil. Cover the base and the walls of the baking dish with wax paper.
- Mix the butter and the cane syrup in a big casserole. Stir over low heat without allowing it to boil until the butter dissolves. Then add in the sugar, the flour, the baking soda, the spices, the eggs and milk. Beat all of the ingredients until you obtain a homogeneous mixture.
- Put the dates on the base of the mold and pour the mixture over them. Bake the cake for 50 to 60 minutes or until a wooden pick stuck into the middle of the cake comes out clean. Let the cake sit for 5 minutes. Flip the cake over onto a metal rack and let it cool. Sprinkle some confectioner’s sugar over the top of the cake and serve it out either warm or cold, as you prefer.
