Curative properties
Local anesthetic: do mouthwashes with tincture. Also, apply cataplasm over affected area.
Asthma: boil and drink 2 cups daily of the brew of two spoonfuls of pulverized leaves in half a liter of water, during 4 to 7 minutes.
Colic: drink 2 cups daily of the brew of two spoonfuls of pulverized leaves in half a liter of water, during 4 to 7 minutes.
Moderate depression: drink the infusion throughout the day (4 cups).
Diarrhea: drink two cups daily of the brew of two spoonfuls of pulverized leaves in half a liter of water, during 4 to 7 minutes.
Digestive: boil and drink the infusion of 5g per liter of water.
Headache: drink two cups daily of the brew of two spoonfuls of pulverized leaves in half a liter of water, during 4 to 7 minutes.
Toothache: do gargles with the tincture. Also apply a cataplasm over affected area. If not, drink the infusion of 1g of grounded leaves in 200ml of water or use leaves directly over aching tooth.
Stimulant: drink the infusion or chew coco leaves with lime.
Laryngitis: do gargles with the infusion of 10g of leaves per liter of water. Add 3 to 4 drops of lemon and a pinch of salt.
Inflammation: wash and rinse with the infusion of 10g of leaves per liter of water.
Mouth inflammation: do gargles with the infusion of 10g of leaves per liter of water. Add 3 to 4 drops of lemon and a pinch of salt.
High altitude sickness: drink the infusion.
Neuralgia: drink the infusion, 1g of grounded leaves in 200ml of water.
Burns: apply a cataplasm of grounded leaves over affected area.
Rheumatism: ingest 2g of leaves daily.
Preparation
Cataplasm: grind fresh and dry leaves and soak in hot water until a paste if formed. Place them in any natural porous fiber and use as bandage over affected area until discomfort diminishes. Also apply directly over affected area covering the paste with a hot towel.
Brew: boil the plant in low temperature, between 15 to 30 minutes. Turn it off, let stand for a few minutes and strain.
Infusion: add the indicated quantity of leaves to a liter of boiling water. Remove from heat immediately and let stand for a few minutes.
Tincture: submerge 10g of whole leaves or 30g of pulverized leaves in one bottle of alcohol of 70º. Seal and macerate between 8 to 15 days. Shake the bottle every day. Filter and store in an dark colored airtight bottle. Take between 1.5 and 5g per dose.
Precaution
In case of pregnancy or nursing, do not use without medical supervision. In average doses, increases cardiac and respiratory frequency and in physical and psychic capacity improves mental condition. Consumption of coca shrub can give positive results in urine exams to detect cocaine.
