Bottles Hygiene

All of the bottles whether new or old, must be washed before using. For second hand bottles and returnable bottles the following is recommended:
  • Discard any broken bottles; those that have dirt in them, or any that contained toxic substances.
  • Soak each one with detergent and a caustic solution (two teaspoons for every ten liters of water) and wash them inside and out with a bottle scrubber or with a mechanic washer. Rinse with a solution of bisulphite sodium (one teaspoon in ten liters of water) and finally drain well.
  • For the rinsing and drying you can use the same type of system, which consists in connecting a tube, which runs through a dribble of water or air, respectively, to little tubes attached to the bottles.
  • It is recommended to sterilize all types of bottles, because this prevents the growth of harmful microorganisms.

Sterilizing the Bottles
There are two ways of sterilizing:

The first method consists of putting the standing bottles over a cloth inside of a pot with boiling water for 10 minutes.

The second method of sterilizing the bottles consists of holding the open top of a bottle over the spout of a kettle with boiling water. A vertical tube acts as a security valve. Make sure when doing this, to sterilize it far away from the product as one of the bottles could break.
