Basil in Natural Remedies 

 

Curative properties 

Cuts and scrapes: caused by infections.  Boil the basil for two minutes and apply the leaves and with the remaining liquid clean the wound.

Diarrhea, gases, seafood intoxication, and vomits: drink the infusion of 20 to 30g of fresh leaves added to a liter of boiling water, let stand for a few minutes.

Digestive: drink the infusion of 35g of fresh leaves added to a liter of boiling water, let stand.  You can also take the basil wine.  Macerate a fistful of basil in a bottle of white wine.  Let stand for 24 hours, strain and drink 100g after meals.

Headache: drink the infusion of 15g of leaves per liter of water.

Throat pain, inflamed gums: do gargles with the infusion of 15 to 30g of leaves per liter of water.

Eye inflammation, sty: apply warm compresses from the basil and rose water infusion over the affected part of the eye.  If not, grind some leaves and soak in boiling water.  Then, place it over affected area covering with a cloth. 

Insomnia: boil 15g of fresh leaves in a liter of milk.  You can also take the infusion of 20 to 30g of leaves added to a liter of boiling water, let stand.

Nursing: used for milk obstruction in breasts.  Apply basil compresses and rosewater over affected area.  To help milk secretion, drink the brew of 30g of fresh leaves in a liter of water.  Let stand and drink 3 cups a day, between meals.  You can also boil 10g of leaves in half a liter of wine and drink hot.

Bites: rub fresh leaves over the affected area to reduce inflammation.

Menstrual problems: to help provoke menstruation, drink the infusion of 20 to 30g of fresh leaves added to a liter of water, let stand.

Flu: prepare an infusion of basil, ginger and white onions.  If not, boil 10g of leaves in half a liter of wine and drink hot.  Also, do basil steam inhalations covering head with a towel.

Cough: add 25g of fresh leaves in a liter of boiling water and drink 3 daily of this infusion.

Precaution
In case of pregnancy or nursing, do not follow any treatment without medical supervision. During pregnancy, use moderately because it can induce labor.
